Tony Rivera

OUHSD Mariachi Director

Antonio Rivera, or “Tony” as his family and students call him is the Mariachi Enrichment Assistant within the Oxnard Union High School District. Rivera started working with the school district in 2005.  He began working with his older brother Ramon Rivera shadowing his work, and eventually took charge of the program. He started working in two OUHSD schools, Hueneme High School and Channel Islands High School, but with the help of his other brother Dominic Rivera, he now teaches in all OUHSD schools with the exception of Pacific High School.

Outside teaching, Tony is the guitarron player of  his family owned mariachi group, Mariachi Camarillo. Alongside his sister, brother and mother he runs the group, which is well known throughout the county.

Tony began playing guitarron at age 16, while a student at Adolfo Camarillo High School. During that time he also was enrolled in Marching Band, Concert Band and Jazz Band. He said it is an honor to be an ACHS alumnus and it is a pleasure to work with the school district in which he was once a student.
