Welcome (back) to Camarillo Music - from the Directors
We sincerely hope that you are as excited to receive this note as we are to send it! While we–as a program, community, and country–will likely be unable to return to life as we know it for the foreseeable future, the Directors and Staff of Camarillo Music are happy to begin this academic year the same way we always do: with our focus on the development of our students as people first and as musicians second.
As you might be aware, OUHSD plans on an entirely virtual beginning to the 2020-2021 school year. This impacts not only classes in the fall, but our Band Camp plans as well. While we can’t meet in person for Band Camp this year, we’ve been hard at work thinking up new and exciting ways to help our students to experience the Camarillo Music community virtually. You’ll receive another note in the next week or so with some specifics of these plans.
Our planning for this virtual climate is not limited to Marching Band and Band Camp, however. We’re committed to making all of our students’ time in the Music Department as fulfilling and transformative as we believe it always is. Furthermore, rather than view this less-than ideal situation with dread we plan to capitalize on some of our unique circumstances (like the POSSIBLE lack of festivals, competitions, shows, etc.) by focusing on some aspects of music education and ensemble playing that simply haven’t been feasible in the past. All that we ask is for you to join us with an open mind and a willingness to make honest mistakes in the name of self improvement.
Please be aware that things will start to move quickly in the coming weeks! Keep your eyes on our department calendar and please turn on notifications for your cell phone’s email app (students). While we use Remind on a fairly regular basis, email is still our primary means of communication, and, as we all know, communication is key!
We’re so eager to get started!
