Senior Spotlight: Alex Askar

Instruments: Trumpet & tuba
Plan for the Future: I plan to attend Oxnard College in the fall and major in Electrical Engineering.
Travel aspirations: I would fly to Syria, because even though where my dad is from, I don’t know much about the country and my history. I would love to learn about my history and spend time with the family I have there.
Proudest accomplishment: Having the privilege to become a trumpet section leader and being able to look back on all the memories I made with those who I consider my family.
Favorite Memory: When we went to San Francisco and all of us entertained Mr. Cook and Mr. G with our kazoo playing and watching their blood boil.
Favorite musical piece/tune from high school: “I Made This For You” by Chris Thile
Most underappreciated thing about high school: The hype that the drumline had for all of the rallies. We were the heart and soul of them all, but nobody would admit it
Quarantine activities: Practicing and improving my skills on trumpet and tuba, watching many Netflix shows, and using this time to bond with my sister.
What I've been watching in quarantine: “The Umbrella Academy”
Favorite part of the ACHS Music program: The part of the ACHS Music program that has had the most impact on me was the marching program. I loved the feeling of going on a field and performing a 10-minute show after putting so much time and effort in it for an amazing audience.
What would you say to your freshman self about the Music program if you could? I would tell myself that no matter how stressful or annoying it gets, to enjoy every single second of it and be the best you can be.
