Festival brings out the best in Jazz musicians
All three of the program's jazz bands participated in the Newbury Park High School jazz festival on Saturday. The event featured several guest artists and bands from throughout the country, and all three ensembles had the privilege of receiving 30-minute clinics with legendary jazz drummer and Fullerton College faculty member, Matt Johnson, directing above.
The festival was not for placements, but AM and PM lab jazz received Excellent Ratings and Jazz I received two Excellents and a Superior Rating as well. Director Daniel Cook said this is a much stronger and earlier start than last year's jazz program and, "I am very pleased with all ensembles' work."
The following students received recognition for their solos: Vincent Belvedere, Mauricio Castellanos, Katie Cha, Sarah Petersen, Chayton Ramirez, Dustin Reese, Dalton Resor, Elyse Scalia and David Schneider.
